IES Illumination Awards

Program Overview

The IES Illumination Awards provide a unique opportunity for public recognition of professionalism, ingenuity, and originality in lighting design based upon the individual merit of each entry judged against specific criteria.

Judges are selected from a broad professional spectrum that represents knowledge of lighting and design excellence. The judging system is based entirely on how well the lighting design does or does not meet the program criteria. This program is not a competition. The program is open to any qualified entrant without limitations as to professional affiliations. The category awards are parallel programs created to recognize outstanding lighting design.

Call for Entries: IESBC Vision Awards

IES Vision AwardsOn January 2, 2019, the Illuminating Engineering Society of British Columbia (IESBC) will be accepting lighting project submissions for their 2018 Vision Awards. The installation must have been completed during the 24 months preceding the January program date listed. Projects may be entered only once using the IA portal. If there is no active IES section in your area, your project will still be accepted and entered for judging. All judging is conducted ‘blind’ or anonymously; judges do not know any project details at any stage of judging. The nominator must check with all parties to eliminate duplicate entries. All entries previously judged will be rejected. Different areas of the same project may be submitted as separate lighting or controls project entries. Each of these entries must have its own distinguishable title and additional entry fee. Each of these entries will be judged separately. The nominator must inform the owner and all others involved or associated in the project design of participation in the program and that the entry may be published in LD+A. The owner’s name and location may be withheld for privacy reasons.

If your project receives a final award, you and three of your designers will be invited to attend the Illumination Awards Gala held during the IES Annual Conference. Your design team and design installation will also be featured in LD+A, a magazine for professionals involved in the art, science, study, manufacture, teaching and implementation of lighting. LD+A is designed to enhance and improve the practice of lighting. The IES will also extend one complimentary night’s lodging and one free conference registration to the lead lighting designer for each project. Finally, our highest award recipients will also receive a $1,000 travel reimbursement.
